Attention all climate change warriors and tech enthusiasts! We have an exciting opportunity to join the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) as a Programme Management Officer (P-4) in the Means of Implementation Division. But here's where it gets interesting: this role is all about making a real impact on the global fight against climate change through technology and innovation.
The UNFCCC Secretariat is like the central command center for the world's response to climate change. It provides crucial support to the Convention, the Kyoto Protocol, and the Paris Agreement, navigating the complex political landscape to facilitate action and guide negotiations.
Now, let's dive into the Means of Implementation Division, where the magic happens. This division is all about helping countries access the resources they need to implement climate solutions. And within this division, the Technology Subdivision is a powerhouse, focusing on international cooperation for climate technology development and transfer, especially for developing nations.
The Technology Subdivision is organized into two key units: the Policy and Strategy Unit, and the Support and Implementation Unit. The advertised position is at the helm of the latter, leading a team under the guidance of the Manager (P-5) and the Director (D-1) of the division.
As the Programme Management Officer, your role is pivotal. You'll ensure the smooth implementation of the Technology Mechanism under the Convention and the Paris Agreement, with a special focus on Article 10 of the Paris Agreement. It's all about advancing global cooperation to strengthen climate action, both in mitigation and adaptation.
Your responsibilities are diverse and impactful. You'll provide strategic advice and guidance to intergovernmental negotiations on technology development and transfer, drafting key documents and supporting presiding officers during these crucial discussions. You'll also coordinate with the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) and offer substantive support to the Technology Executive Committee (TEC), facilitating collaboration and ensuring effective operation of the Technology Mechanism.
But it's not just about the technical side. You'll also foster partnerships with governments, UN bodies, research institutions, and other stakeholders, leading resource mobilization efforts and contributing to synthesis reports on technology needs and national communications. You'll collaborate across divisions on long-term strategies, NDCs, and transparency reporting, ensuring a holistic approach to climate action.
In addition, you'll oversee the management and strategic development of the TT: CLEAR technology transfer clearinghouse, expanding data availability and ensuring it remains a trusted global information source. This role also involves providing technical leadership and managing staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team.
The qualifications for this role are rigorous. You'll need an advanced university degree in environmental science, economics, engineering, development studies, or a related field. At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in climate technologies, project management, and intergovernmental processes are essential, along with strong analytical and drafting skills.
If you meet these requirements and are passionate about making a difference in the fight against climate change, this could be your dream job. Apply now and be part of the global effort to create a sustainable future.
